At least five militants and a soldier were killed in clashes in Pakistanآ’s North Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan, said military on Saturday.
A statement by Pakistan militaryآ’s Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that five militants were killed when fighting erupted during a cordon-and-search operation in Dattakhel area, some 30km west of the agencyآ’s headquarters of Miramshah. An army officer also lost his life in the clash, the statement added.
According to local media reports, security personnel were conducting house-to-house search when militants opened fire on them, killing a major of Pakistan military and injuring a soldier. The troops returned fire and killed five militants including two foreigners. The injured soldier was shifted to the military hospital.
North Waziristan is one of the seven tribal agencies of Pakistan governed by tribal laws and Pakistan military is conducting a major offensive against the foreign and local militants in the region.
