Pakistan's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police has arrested three militants allegedly associated with Al-Qaeda from a university in the southern port city of Karachi, local media reported Saturday. Geo TV said that the CID conducted a search operation in the University of Karachi Friday afternoon, arrested three suspects and later recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their hideouts in some downtown area. Police said that the arrested militants were active at the University of Karachi and some other private universities across the city from where they recruited religiously-inclined students into Al-Qaeda. The suspected militants were monitored by an Al-Qaeda commander from the tribal area of North Waziristan, who assigned them different tasks including target killings and bomb blasts in Karachi. Police said that the suspected militants were actively involved in carrying out various major terrorist activities in the city in the last two years. The insurgents were shifted to some unknown location for further investigations.
