Yolanda Foster doubted herself as a mother after daughter Bella Hadid was arrested for a DUI.
The 50-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star admitted as much in a blog post on the Bravo website this week. Hadid was 17 years old when she was arrested in June, and Foster said the upsetting incident turned into a lesson learned.
"I felt so insecure," she recalled. "Not only because Bella had made such a huge, left-field mistake, but also because the fear of losing her had almost become a reality ... I raised her as a single mom most of her life, so immediately I started to take it personally, blaming myself and doubting my parenting skills."
Foster wrote her daughter a letter to express both her love and disappointment, and reprimanded her by taking her phone away, making her pay for her own lawyer bills and selling her car. The court suspended Hadid's license for a year, put her on six months probation, and required her to complete 25 hours of community service and 20 hours of AA meetings.
"The reality is that it was a very painful experience and a lesson learned for our family," Foster reflected. "The truth is that none of us are perfect. I have and still make mistakes at age 50, so expectations of a life without mistakes from my children would be unrealistic and unfair."
Hadid is Foster's daughter with ex-husband Mohamed Hadid. The 18-year-old aspiring model has two siblings, 19-year-old sister Gigi Hadid and 15-year-old brother Anwar Hadid. Foster married musician David Foster in November 2011.
Foster joined the cast of Bravo reality series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2012. The show is currently in its fifth season, and airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET. Kim Richards, Kyle Richards, Lisa Vanderpump, Brandi Glanville, Eileen Davidson and Lisa Rinna co-star.
