Dianne Wiest has won two Oscars and currently stars in an off-Broadway play, but the fame and glamour of Hollywood are not enough for the actress to pay rent.
"I have to move out of my apartment soon," Wiest, 66, said in a recent interview with The New York Times for a profile about her and Tonya Pinkins, who co-stars with Wiest in the forthcoming play Rasheeda Speaking.
While talking about her struggles to make ends meet, Wiest discussed falling victim to typecasting and to being unable to break out of the "nice mom" roles in films even with her two Oscars -- she won the golden statue for 1986's Hannah and Her Sisters and 1994's Bullets Over Broadway.
"That's all that ever came, except in theater," said the actress, who seems to be convinced that better roles in movies might still come along.
"I think that if it's meant to happen, it will happen," she said. "Which is I guess a real sign of stupidity."
Wiest and Pinkins will be directed by Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon in the forthcoming comedy drama about post-racial America, which will premiere in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre on Jan. 27 and run through March 22.
