Eddie Murphy has become the latest celebrity to fall victim to a death hoax. The Coming To America star was confirmed as being alive and well, contrary to reports that TMZ claims originated on MediaFetcher.com. Speculation about the 50-year-old’s passing caused the topic “RIP Eddie Murphy” to trend on Twitter. Murphy was forced to deny rumours back in 2010 that he had died in a snowboarding accident. The same cause of death was cited in the current hoax. Celebrities named in a spate of death hoaxes last year included Kevin Bacon, Charlie Sheen, Jersey Shore cast member Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jon Bon Jovi. The ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ singer personally denied the rumours by posting a picture of himself to Facebook holding a note reading: “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.” The man behind the Bon Jovi hoax admitted later that his actions were “quite wrong”.
