Hilary Duff says she and estranged husband Mike Comrie still love each other.
The 27-year-old actress opened up about the 34-year old retired NHL star in an interview with Health magazine. The couple separated in January, but the star told the publication she and Comrie remain close for more than just their son, Luca.
"We have a two-year-old together," she related. "We love each other. Obviously it wasn't a rash decision that we made. We really are just trying to figure out how we are the most happy -- whether together or apart -- and we're doing it as lovingly as possible."
"We would hang out [even] without Luca," she asserted. "We think it's important to keep a strong relationship no matter if we're married or not married. And we love our son. We both want to fight for happiness."
Duff and Comrie married in August 2010, and welcomed Luca in March 2012. The actress declared in September she and the NHL star would have filed for divorce if there was no chance of reconciliation, and the couple were spotted holding hands at a Halloween party in October.
Duff came to fame on Disney sitcom Lizzie Maguire, and has since appeared on The CW series Gossip Girl and Fox comedy Raising Hope. The actress will star as Kelsey on new Darren Star (Sex and the City) sitcom Younger on TV Land in 2015.
