He’s been idolised by millions of youngsters all over the world, but Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says he spent years fighting a secret drinking problem and has been clean only since last August. The British actor, who shot to stardom in the Harry Potter franchise aged 11, developed a partying habit and became dependant on alcohol in order to have a good time, at the same time becoming increasingly "complacent" about his work. “I became so reliant on (alcohol) to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamoured with the idea of living some sort of famous person's lifestyle that really isn't suited to me,” the 21-year-old said. Radcliffe says he’s glad the paparazzi never captured him at his worst behaviour and now he’s given up his wild ways to adopt a completely sober lifestyle. “I really got away with that because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken,” he said. “I'm actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I'm really pleasant.” Article continues below The young actor also admits that he would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, but that just doesn't work for him. “I do that very unsuccessfully. I'd just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh,” he said. Adding, “There's no shame in enjoying the quiet life. And that's been the realisation of the past few years for me."
