After nine days of colourful music spectacles, the 11th edition of Mawazine Festival: “Rhythms of the World” came to an end, on Saturday in Rabat, with a glittering performance by R&B diva, Mariah Carey. On the stage of Souissi, the international star gave her first concert in Africa to the delight of her numerous Moroccan fans who sang with her hits like “Without you”. Another mega star in the middle-east, wael Kafoury enchanted his fan in the closing concert on the Nahda stage which was reserved for oriental music. Meanwhile in Salé, thousands of nonstop screaming, jumping and waving fans enjoyed a concert livened-up by renowned Moroccan Rap crews who entertained the public with 5-hours of music. The stage of Bouregreg was buoyed by African rythms performed by Chiwoniso from Zimbabwe. In the archeological site of Challah, another Mawazine was taking place celebrating spiritual music. the site hosted India’s Debashish Bhattacharya, on Saturday, who gave a concert exhibiting the deep-rooted musical traditions in their country. Mawazine festival was keen to bring music as closer as possible from the citizen through holding in big streets music spectacles performed by bands from France, India, Romania and Morocco. Held on May 18-26 in Rabat by Maroc Cultures Association, the Festival brought together a galaxy of world renowned stars including Evanescence, Scorpions, Jimmy Cliff, Cheb Khaled, as well as other singers representing different musical styles.
