Billy Joel says he won't release another album because he's had his say.
The 65-year-old musician detailed his reluctance in an interview with The New Yorker. Joel last released River of Dreams in 1993, and while fans remain hopeful for a new album, the singer told the magazine he is done recording.
"I'm not crazy about going into a recording studio and doing that kind of life again," he confessed. "Or taking on another project where there's other people involved -- arrangers and orchestrators and conductors and producers. I don't want to deal with it."
"Some people think it's because I'm lazy or I'm just being contrary," he acknowledged. "But, no, I think it's just -- I've had my say. If I put out an album now, it would probably sell pretty well, because of who I am, but that's no reason to do it. I'd want it to be good."
Joel debuted his first album, Cold Spring Harbor, in 1971, and released 11 more studio records over the next 22 years. The singer has achieved much in his career, with 33 Top 40 hits, six Grammy awards and over 150 million records sold as of 2012.
Although Joel has no plans to record a new album, he continues to perform live. The musician took up residency at Madison Square Garden in January, and regularly plays to sold-out crowds.
