The United States will increase its assistance to the UN’s World Food Programme by 21 million dollars to aid displaced Syrians, the White House said Wednesday. Rajiv Shah, administrator for the US Agency for International Development, made the announcement in Jordan of 14.3 million dollars in food aid to Syrians affected by the violence inside the country and 6.7 million dollars to help those displaced in neighbouring countries, dpa reported. The fresh aid brings US humanitarian assistance to more than 100 million dollars, including 48.5 million dollars to the UN food programme, 23.1 million dollars to the UN High Comissioner for Refugees and 15 million dollars to non-governmental organizations.
