The Bangladeshi government Sunday ordered the country's garment factory owners to pay salaries and bonuses to all workers ahead of upcoming religious festivals of Hindus and Muslims.
Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Bangladesh's state minister for Labor and Employment, told journalists after a meeting that the bonus for Muslims' Eid and Hindus' Puja festivals must be paid by Sept. 28.
The salaries for the month of September shall have to be paid by Oct. 2, he said after the meeting of the Crisis Management Core Committee of the readymade garment sector.
The Durga Puja, the largest festival of the year for Bengali Hindus, falls on Oct. 4 while the Eid-ul- Azha, also known as the Eid of sacrifice, will be held from Oct. 6 based on sighting of the new moon.
