The Future Movement demonstrated Friday outside Electricite Du Liban in the southern coastal city of Sidon and blocked area roads in protest at harsh electricity rationing. Around 100 protesters blocked the road near EDL offices in the city for 30 minutes. They carried signs that read: “Lift oppression from the city” and “The whole city pays its bills, so why the deprivation?” Speaking to The Daily Star, Future Movement official Amin Hariri criticized the increase in power cuts and said it was time that the whole country envoy 24-hour electricity. “We pay 100 percent of our electricity bill, so why this neglect and oppression?” he asked. “It is time we raise our [collective] voice and say that Sidon and all Lebanese areas should start enjoying electricity all day,” Hariri added.
