The Public Security Department's (PSD) media centre on Tuesday said a special investigation unit with expertise in tracking down criminals in Amman managed to identify persons involved in the theft of a number of ATMs.
The PSD received complaints from representatives of two banks about mysterious theft of three ATMs. The PSD's cyber crimes department unravelled the modus operandi deployed in looting the ATMs.
The media center added that the offenders committed the crime electronically, accessing the funds in the ATMs. The method they adopted had never been used in the Kingdom though similar crimes have happened in a number of countries around the world.
Investigations led to identify persons who committed this crime, and three were found to be Romanians who had come to the Kingdom for a short time and lived in a rented apartment. They fled the country after committing the crime. All legal and police procedures are underway, and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has been notified about the criminals.
