The newly discovered natural gas well BTE-2 is expected to produce 20 million cubic feet daily and this output can hit 60 million cubic feet per day after carrying out certain developments to the discovery, according to a report by the head of Badr El Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO).
The report - which Petroleum Minister Tareq Mulla received on Wednesday- said Royal Dutch Shell was encouraged after the discovery to dig nine exploratory wells in 2017.
In August, Royal Dutch Shell announced new natural gas discoveries in a concession area of north Alam El Shawish in Egypt's western desert.
The initial quantities discovered were estimated at about half a trillion cubic feet of gas with more possible reserves.
The discovery could produce from 10 to 15 percent of the total production of Badr El Din Petroleum company, which is a joint venture acting on behalf of the state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Shell in production operations.
