The first pedestrian underpass in Ras Al Khaimah is being constructed by the Public Works department, a source at Ras Al Khaimah\'s Public Works Department said. The Department of Public Works and Services in Ras Al Khaimah is building the first pedestrian underpass in the emirate at a traffic lights intersection on Al Ittihad Road. The source said the underpass will be 60 metres long, three metres wide and five metres deep. It will benefit residents who frequent shops located near the road and on the other side of the street where the mosque of Shaikha Mahra Bint Ahmad is located, and the shops next to it. The source explained that the underpass will have lighting, ventilation and beautiful inscriptions. Road projects The department is carrying out vital road projects in Ras Al Khaimah and most of them will be completed by 2020, the source said. One of the projects is the Ras Al Khaimah ring road project, which will join all internal and external road networks in the emirate, It is expected to solve all major traffic problems of the emirate including the burden of heavy trucks, added the source. The ring road project will also link Emirates Road with Ras Al Khaimah, added the source. According to the source, the project, which aims to ensure hassle-free travel, will solve the problems of traffic jams being experienced on many roads in the emirate. \"People from Shamal and other northern areas of the emirate and travelling to Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates, will no longer have to drive through the busy streets in the town. The ring road will connect them directly to Emirates Road,\" he said.
