The European Union\'\'s /EU/ statistical office (Eurostat) on Friday said that unemployment rate in the 27 member European Union was 9.5% in August, unchanged compared with July. Unemployment in the 17-member euro area was 10.0% in August, unchanged compared with July, the Eurostat said in figures released here today . Eurostat estimates that 22.785 million men and women in the EU were unemployed in August, compared with July, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 62,000 in the EU. Among the EU Member States, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Austria (3.7%), the Netherlands (4.4%) and Luxembourg (4.9%), and the highest in Spain (21.2%), Greece (16.7%) and Latvia (16.2%).
