In the latest food scandal, products manufactured by a leading frozen foods brand, Wanchai Ferry, have been found containing prohibited bacteria. This comes after similar products sold by Sanquan and Hai Pa Wang were found to contain similar bacteria in southern China’s Guangdong Province. Frozen dumplings made by the Hong Kong-based manufacturer, Wanchai Ferry, have been found to contain golden staph, bacteria that can sometimes be life-threatening. The Nanjing Industrial and Commercial Administration has ordered the recall of these dumplings. Ding Feng, vice manager of Jin Runfa Supermarket, Nanjing city, said, "All the products have been pulled from the shelves, and we’re waiting for the latest quality check results." Wanchai Ferry is facing a crisis of confidence. It used to be a well respected brand. "Wanchai Ferry has always been my top choice. " "Wanchai Ferry is my favourite, I don’t know which one is safe after the recent scandals." The sale of frozen food has plunged dramatically as a result of the scandal. But a new draft regulation currently being discussed by the Ministry of Health does allow for low levels of the bacteria. Experts explain that golden staph can be killed by thorough cooking, and that over-panicking is unnecessary.
