Tokyo stocks closed a touch higher Wednesday, with the Nikkei Stock Average finishing at 8,772.54, up 30.63 points, or 0.35%. In early trade, a broad range of issues, including exporters, opened higher, helped by a sharp overnight rise on Wall Street. But the Nikkei Stock Average lost upward momentum when a lack of domestic buying incentives prompted investors to sell off stocks on the rebound. Many investors stayed on the sidelines to await the release of U.S. economic data later in the day, leading to the low trading value on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange
