Hong Kong stocks plunged 616.35 points, or 3.08 percent, to close at 19,399.92 on Friday. The benchmark Hang Seng Index was deep in the red all day after opened sharply lower 2.69 percent at 19,478.82 following a big slump in the U.S. stock market overnight. The index traded between 19,314.42 and 19,595.92. Turnover totaled 81.93 billion HK dollars (about 10.51 billion U.S. dollars). The Hang Seng China Enterprise Index closed at 10,277.38, down 441.08 points or 4.12 percent.
