The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) stated Thursday that Egyptian cotton exports in the period between September and November 2016 totaled 202,500 metric quintals compared to 123,600 metric quintals during the same period last year, representing a 63.9 percent increase.
The Agency said in its quarterly newsletter for the first quarter of the 2016-2017 agricultural year (from September to November 2016) that total consumption rates of domestic cotton reached 107,000 metric quintals, compared to 113,000 metric quintals during the same period of the previous year, recording a decrease of 3.5 percent.
IT attributed the decrease to the fact that a number of spinning and weaving factories had gone out of business.
