Egypt saw during February a record high in the tonnage of cargo passing through its vital Suez Canal waterway.
The Suez Canal witnessed the passing of 1,219 ships carrying 73.21 million tons last February compared to 1,238 vessels which carried 69.4 million tons in February 2014, according to official statistics released by the Suez Canal Authority on Monday.
The waterway which connects the Mediterranean and Red Seas is one of the country's main sources of foreign currency reserves, along with tourism and remittances from Egyptian expatriates.
