Head of the Farmers Union Mahmoud el Gahsh Thursday hailed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's decision to cut down the rental value of state-owned lands from EGP 4,000 to EGP 2,500 per feddan.
"Such decision would allow farmers make a reasonable profit margin and go through the cost of living pressures," he said in a statement on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Sisi discussed with farmers' representatives challenges facing them and promised to take all measures needed to resolve them.
Gahsh also praised Sisi's decisions to lower the fine imposed for cultivating unlicensed crops by 50 percent, and turning the Farmer's Union into a professional one.
