The Ministry of Municipality and Environment examined over 6 thousands consignments of imported agricultural goods weighing about 12 tons in all customs centers in the country last April.
The Agriculture Quarantine Office at the Ministry also destroyed 151 consignments weighing more than 21 tons for being infected with quarantine or non-quarantine pests in violation of the Agricultural Quarantine Law.
The Ministry also examined 10 consignments weighing 135 tons of various consignments of agricultural goods exported from Qatar, and issued phytosanitary certificates for the exported or re-exported consignments from the State of Qatar.
The agricultural quarantine is the first line of defense and the precautionary measure to protect plants from the risk of agricultural pests. It stipulates to subject all plants, agricultural products and other regulated substances to its procedures in order to ensure compliance with the applicable conditions and specifications.
