Minister of Oil and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Al-Omair on Wednesday commended the impact of the new environment law on the efforts to protect environment in the country.
"Beside the role of the law, the voluntary efforts are crucial to environment protection," the minister said while inaugurating the second campaign of Kuwait Oasis team.
The campaign dubbed "kolona lil-Kuwait' (we all for Kuwait) is being held under the patronage of Dr. Al-Omair and lasts until the end of this campaign season.
The ceremony gathered Director General of the Environment Public Authority (EPA) Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, media coordinator of the campaign Fatema Al-Anzi and representative of partner other organizations such as the Ministry of Interior, the Petrochemicals Industries Co. and Kuwait Energy.
Sheikh Ahmad said the voluntary action has a great impact on the efforts to raise public awareness about the new law and the conservation of environment, commending the public-private partnership in this regard.
On her part, Al-Anzi said reaffirmed the commitment of the Kuwait Oasis (KO) team to efforts aiming to expand greenery across the country.
The team's membership grew from 50 to nearly 250 members, males and females and belonging to various age categories, she noted.
KO is a non-profit agency affiliated to the Environmental Voluntary Foundation and aiming increase the green footprint in the Kuwaiti deserts.
KO team is specialized in the operations conducted in the desert which are intended to preserve and rehabilitate the environment; its main projects include planting trees in desert areas, notably the Kuwait Green Wall Project.
