The Municipal Council returned the layout of the first stage of the GCC railway network to the Council's technical committee for further study of the project.
The Kuwait-conceived railway which will link Kuwait to other GCC member states and further to Iraq is a vital project for the entire region, said Deputy Director General of Kuwait Municipality for Urban Planning Eng. Ahmad Al-Manfouhi .
"The executive board of the Municipality seeks authorization from competent bodies for relocating the real estate along 11 kilometers on the route of the railroad, including farmland and cattle barns, and paying damages to their owners," he said during a meeting by the Council and the executive board.
"The Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources (PAAFR) agreed to move 41 estates to alternative locations in Kabd area," he pointed out.
Based on technical advice and Letter No 346 of the Partnerships Technical Bureau (PTB) of May 10, 2012, the Municipal Council approved in principle the layout of the first stage of the railroad at a width of 70 meters, Al-Manfouhi disclosed.
The Municipality will continue coordination with the Ministry of Communications and other competent state departments to remove the remaining obstacles facing the project pursuant to the Cabinet's Decree No. 6371, dated July 23, 2014, he added.
On his part, director of the Municipality's layout dept Eng. Saad Al-Muhailbi said the Municipality agreed, after consultation with the concerned departments, that the national network will hook up with the regional one in two points - one in the south on the borders with Saudi Arabia and another in the north on the borders with Iraq .
