The Lower House Tuesday endorsed the draft law for monitoring economic activities for 2017 in a morning session chaired by Speaker Atef Tarawneh and attended by cabinet ministers.
Under the law, which becomes valid after 180 days of its publication in the official gazette, a committee will be formed and named the Higher Committee for Developing the Inspection of Business, which will be headed by the Minister of Trade and Industry, with members from the concerned institutions and the private sector. It will serve as a national umbrella to draw up inspection policies and coordinate with oversight entities.
The law unifies the references for inspection to prevent conflict and duality of authority among official institutions when inspecting economic activities in such sectors as public health, food and drug safety, workers’ rights, the environment, vocational licensing, occupational safety and health, market product survey and fire safety.
