Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza patronised here today the opening ceremony the Gulf Electricity Conference and Exhibition 2014 (GCC Power 2014), organised by the GCC Regional Committee for Electric Systems (GCC CIGRE).
GCC Chief Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, senior GCC electricity officials, CEO of the Electricity and Water Affairs (EWA) Shaikh Nawaf bin Ebrahim bin Hamad Al Khalifa and senior EWA officials were also present at the ceremony.
In his opening speech, Dr. Mirza welcomed the participants and wished them every success in the GCC Power conference and exhibition, hosted by the kingdom for the fourth time since the mid-1990s.
He conveyed to the audience greetings and wishes of success from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.
He underlines the kingdom's leadership unwavering support for the energy sector, as the best means to achieve the goals of the National Strategy 2030 in the power sector.
He lauded the on-going cooperation between GCC CIGRE and the International Council on Large Electrical Systems (CIGRE) in organising "GCC Power 2014".
He highlighted the government's main focus on the sustainability of the kingdom's natural resources as a strategic option for the coming generations through upgrading the productivity of power stations, conserving energy, building smart networks and benefiting for renewable sources of energy.
He added that the conference provides participants with an opportunity to learn more about the latest developments in the electricity and energy industry, encourages collaboration among international commissions, and enhances scientific research efforts among GCC power authorities.
He expressed sincere thanks to the high organising committee, led by EWA CEO Shaikh Nawaf bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, for its efforts to ensure the success of the event.
Dr. Mirza also thanked the speakers, participants, sponsors and exhibiting companies, and wished them a happy stay in the kingdom.
60 scientific papers to be discussed during the three-day event. They will take into consideration variation and focus on vital subjects that tackle the power sector's current and future matters in the gulf region, and how to sustain the growth of this significant sector through coming up with fruitful recommendations.
Attendees will have the chance to witness the 19th exhibition for electrical equipment which will be held during the three-day GCC Power 2014, bringing together more than 45 exhibitors, showcasing the latest technologies and power solutions around the globe.
