The Abu Dhabi Police General Directorate of Emergency and Public Safety
Abu Dhabi - Wam

The Abu Dhabi Police General Directorate of Emergency and Public Safety has revealed that the success rate the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) operations conducted by its ambulance crews had increased by 88.23 percent last year, compared with 2015.

It is an accomplishment for the directorate, as it is the highest rate worldwide in this field.

Col. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Amiri, Director of the General Directorate, attributed the rise in the success rate to the rapid response, the skills and the professionalism of the ambulance crews in treating cardiac and pulmonary arrests by taking the necessary measures, in compliance with the medical standards for conducting CPRs, which in turn increases the chances of survival for the patient; the provision of adequate healthcare and the prompt transfer of patients to hospitals.

He also emphasised the use of the latest tools and technology to help the medical staff to carry out first aid and provide healthcare to the afflicted, ensuring that they are constantly improving themselves to maintain the overall safety.

Al Amiri also stressed the Directorate's keenness to reduce the response time, as part of the Abu Dhabi police strategy, to achieve the highest score on security and public safety indicators, and to improve the readiness of the ambulance crews to respond to accidents.

He noted that it was necessary to spread the culture of safety and first aid among the community, so that individuals are able to handle emergency situations, especially heart attacks, by following the correct techniques of first aid, until an ambulance crew could reach the spot, and deliver suitable healthcare, as well as avoid complications, and stabilise and transfer the patient to the hospital.
