Chairman of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Maj.-Gen. Kamel el Wazir said on Thursday that about 10 kilometers of the New Suez Canal were dredged up.
The depth of the water ranges between 9 to 24 meters, Wazir said during a press conference near the site of the project.
The new waterway is expected to become a global hub due to its logistics and industrial services.
The project was funded through issuing investment certificates to Egyptians with 12 percent returns, and in eight days, more than 60 billion pounds were collected.
