The Dow and S&P 500 Tuesday closed at fresh all-time highs one day before a US Federal Reserve decision that is expected to maintain aggressive monetary stimulus. At the closing bell, the Dow rose 114.05 (0.73 percent) to 15,682.98 while the S&P 500 jumped 9.93 (0.56 percent) to 1,772.04. The gains came on the heels of a trove of largely mediocre economic data that is seen as boosting the chances the Fed Wednesday will maintain its $85 billion per-month bond-buying program.
