The Jordanian writer and journalist, Basem Sakijha, signed copies of his new book on Monday at the Royal Cultural Centre in the Jordanian capital Amman. The book, Me…but, has been described as beautifully concise by the acclaimed poet and former ambassador to Tunisia, Haidar Mahmoud. In credit to the book, he added that whoever reads it will almost certainly want to finish it in one session. Former minister, Mohammed Dawya expressed his joy at seeing young people rushing to have copies of Me…but signed. He praised the novelists approach to dealing with the themes of identity and citizenship, quoting a particularly eloquent line from the book “I am a Jordanian among Palestinians, and a Palestinian among Jordanians.” In a Q&A Sakijha detailed his professional life, moving between various newspapers and media outlets. He also highlighted the importance of the role of journalists in Jordan. A group of writers, journalists, intellectuals and friends of the writer attended the signing.
