Author Richard Soares saw plenty of opportunity for satire as he surveyed America’s political landscape. Fueled by a wry sense of humor, Soares wrote his new novel, “The Pfurst Family Diaries” (published by Abbott Press), a send-up of politics and American culture.
Philless Pfurst-Steen wants to save the nation by creating an all-powerful TeraCorp directed by a super-efficient supreme executive officer. At the same time, she is trying to direct the presidential campaign of her twin brother, Phillip.
“It’s a satirical look at what happens when voters allow demagogues to define the issues for them,” Soares says. “Hopefully, the voters will find humor with the mess that they themselves have created in Washington through their ideological hysteria.”
An excerpt from “The Pfurst Family Diaries”:
“Phillip, on the other hand, was once again riding a shooting star. He was rubbing elbows with the elite of both coasts. His name was back in the gossip columns, and that made Philless uneasy. She worried that her brother’s new found social life could harm her grandfather’s image and ruin his run for the Oval Office.”
