Author Roger D. Mardis’ new book, “Big Doors Swing on Small Hinges: A Little Word Can Make a Big Difference” (published by WestBow Press), presents 31 pieces of advice, drawn from the pages of the Bible to inspire readers to make better life choices.
“Every reader, Christian or otherwise, can gain from the content of these pages,” Mardis says. “These 31 life lessons affect us all – young or old, professional or blue-collar, urban or rural.”
The main objective of Mardis’ book is to show people the power of the word “but” when used in everyday conversation or thoughts. The word “but,” Mardis says, can change the outcome of a thought or action instantaneously. That change, he adds, can impact the way a person lives.
An excerpt from “Big Doors Swing on Small Hinges:”
“The word but is a conjunction. At times, it may be used as a preposition or as an adverb, but primarily it is a joining word… In the Bible, this word is used on several occasions to indicate that the tide has turned in a situation or to compare people and events. This little word helps us make or see a contrast. Noticing the buts in Scripture can be helpful.”
