Choc Lit is a fairly recent imprint, aimed at those of us who like nothing betting than curling up in an armchair with a good book and a chocolate fix. The Scottish Highlands in 1754 are still reverberating with memories of the Jacobite rebellions nine years earlier. Meanwhile, in Sweden, dashing Brice Kinross learns from his father (in self-exile following the ’45) that he is now the Laird of the family estate of Rosyth, and sets forth to claim his inheritance. What he finds there is a house and land going to ruin, as well as the beautiful, fiery Marsaili Buchanan. The dark forces at work lead them to adventure, danger and - could it be? - love. Cliched? Yes. I nevertheless found myself caring about the characters, and there’s no doubt that Highland Storms does exactly what it says on the chocolate biscuit tin.
