The opening evening of the 8th National Festival of Andalusian music Sanaâ dedicated to the memory of one of the Andalusian music masters, Omar Bensemane (1906-1972), was performed on Friday evening in Algiers by the Andalusian Music Association El Amraouia from Tizi Ouzou and singer Yacine Bensemane.
The Association El Amraouia graced the numerous audience of Ibn Zaydoun theatre with an Andalusian music recital according to the Sanaâ School where the icons of the Algerian Andalusian music were trained, namely late Omar Bensemane.
A documentary film about the important stages of the artist's life, reviewing old songs of Sheikh Omar Bensemane dating back to the 1920s was screened. A special tribute was also paid to the artists who knew him namely late Abderrezak Fakhardji and Sheikh Sadek Béjaoui.
Accompanied by eight members of the troupe, the son of Omar Bensemane, Yacine, performed for the first time songs of his father.
