Souad Massi, Abdelkader Chaou and cheb Bilal, three Algerian artists performing different national musical styles are programmed in the Festival Mawazine Rhythms of the World, scheduled May 30 to June 7 in Rabat, Morocco, announced organizers. Souad Massi, to participate in the festival for the second time since 2011, will perform with her “soft” voice on June 5th at the Mohammed V Theatre, which will also include “a prestigious and surprising programme” of international celebrities, said the Morocco Cultures Association in a communiqué. Considered as one of the masters of Chaabi song, a popular Algerian musical genre, Abdelkader Chaou, accustomed to Moroccan stages but who is only at his first participation to the Mawazine Festival, will also give a concert May 31 in La Renaissance cultural centre. It is the second time this Algerian musical genre is included at the cultural event which aims to shed light on the various world music genres, after the concert given by Algerian singer Rachid Khali in 2012. Cheb Bilal will meet his fans June 2nd on the Nahda stage in Rabat for an evening full of Rai. Many Algerian celebrities, including the late Warda, cheb Khaled, Idir, cheb Mami and Amazigh Kateb, have taken part to this yearly musical event which has been taking place in the Moroccan capital since 2001.
