- The annual Singapore Night Festival will soon return with free spectacular performances, light installations and multitude of activities in the following two weekends.
This is the eighth edition of this iconic night-time extravaganza. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the city- state, this year's festival will showcase an ensemble of world- class entertainment presented by 53 Singaporean and foreign artists with over 100 programs set to the theme of "Glitz and Galmor."
The highlight of each year's festival is the projection on the facade of the National Museum. This year, the world's smallest Inuits - Anook and Nooki, created by two French graphic designers David Passegand and Moetu Batlle especially for Singapore's Golden Jubilee, will turn the whole museum into a huge playground. Titled "The Annoki Celebrate Singapore," visitors will be amused by the cute characters running amok all over the facade with their dance and naughty romps.
Yeo Lili, market senior manager of the National Museum of Singapore told Xinhua that the whole projection took the two artists over three months to make.
In contrast to this gigantic installation, visitors will also be amused by a cute mini pop-up projection of "the Little Nonya's Dream" inside the museum. Three artists from Singapore and France has visualized three of the little girl's dreams with soft cartoon characters, sometime lovely, sometime romantic, and sometime a little bit scary, making everyone smile as they follow her journey.
Brandon Tay, media artist from Singapore, told Xinhua that they have been working on this project as early as May.
"The principal difficulty is probably trying to combine all of us together and try to make a cohesive story out of there. I think that was the main challenge which I think we overcame," he explained.
Apart from art installations, visitors can also enjoy live music, and "fire dances" from Starlight Alchemy, which showcases its multi-disciplinary flow arts combines a variety of aerial and large custom-made fire props while walking along the region.
The four-day festival will be held on Friday and Saturday during the following two weekends, all the programs are free to the public.
