Cultivating the local and international fashion film landscape, the 2nd Annual Miami Fashion Film Festival, hosted September 10-14, 2014 at the Miami Beach Cinematheque, will once more explore the evolving genre of fashion film through a colorful showcase of works exploring the art and dynamic culture of fashion.
Presented by Fashion Inspires More, the five-day event features in-depth documentaries, designer brand and experimental fashion film shorts, filmmaker talks, a fashion photography exhibit, and other exclusive offerings. Featured shorts will link graphics, sound, motion to fashion design in real or digitally imagined environments. Showcased documentaries will highlight designers, fashion creatives, and those using fashion to express themselves as art within the community.
“These are the films fashion fans can get excited about. Fashion is the main protagonist with much to say about what’s happening in the fashion world through the eyes of notable filmmakers. We’re excited that South Florida has embraced the Miami Fashion Film Festival. It’s another great way in which we can experience and enjoy fashion,” says Grace M. Castro, the Founder of the Fashion Inspires More, a Miami-based nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding the fashion dialogue through art, technology and education.
This year’s lineup of films offers more South Florida and U.S. submissions. International participation has also grown with entries from Thailand, Mexico, United Kingdom, India, Poland, Spain, Australia, France, South Africa, Italy, and feature brands like Tom Ford, CR Fashion Book, Hermès, and Maison Martin Margiela, to name a few. Popular titles also making a Miami debut include "Advance Style", the story behind the fashion blog that has become an international phenomenon, with filmmaker guest Lina Plioplyte, "The Politics of Fashion: DC UNBOXED", an eye-opening look at the world of fashion and what lies behind Washington politics, as well as "Startup is the New Black", a new documentary short following the startup process and the South Florida startup culture as told through several local companies.
The weekend also boasts ancillary events like “Into Almuna,” a fashion photography exhibit sponsored by Poggi Designs, which will showcase the unique eye for glamour of fashion photographer Angeles Alumna. Fashion and filmmaker talks will feature local designers like Evrice Cornelius, the designer behind the Casey Levan brand, as well as Antonio Contreras, filmmaker and winner of last year’s Founder’s Award. In addition, "Magic Bracelet", a film by The Make a Film Foundation and filmmaker Rina Goldberg, will be highlighted in part for their mission of granting film wishes to children with serious or life threatening medical conditions by helping them create short film legacies.
The Miami Fashion Film Festival weekend, supported in part by The Beacon Council, Miami Beach Cinematheque, and Panno Divina, will come to a close with an awards ceremony and closing reception hosted by The Betsy South Beach Hotel. Tickets, as low as $12, and event updates can be found by visiting http://www.MIAFFF.org.
