Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said that the Iranian parliament was keen to expand ties with Sudan. Making the remarks in a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Ahmad Ibrahim Al-Tahir here on Sunday night, he said the recent conference in Tehran in support of the Palestinian Intifada was a renewed attempt to help restore the true rights of the Palestinian nation. He believed that the participation of outstanding political and cultural figures from various world countries in the gathering indicated the high importance they attached to the issue of Palestine. Larijani further described Sudan as an important country in Africa and said the Iranian parliament welcomed any expansion of political and economic ties with Khartoum. Al-Tahir, too, hailed Iran’s initiative in holding an international conference on the Palestinian Intifada and stressed that Iran has always been a supporter of the Palestinian cause. The Sudanese parliament speaker travelled to Iran to take part in the 5th Internaitonal Conference on the Palestinian Intifada which was held with participation of figures and delegations from over 50 Islamic and non-Islamic countries.
