Pictures, most of them previously unpublished, of Mujahidate (former Algerian women combatants) taken in the heat of the country’s Liberation War, are exhibited in Paris, at the initiative of photographer and filmmaker Nadja Makhlouf. These women, who are represented in these pictures, are Boudjemma Kheira, Lamri Malika, Elyette Loup or Monique Hervo. Algerians or Europeans, Muslims, Jewish or Christians, these women believed in one idea: free Algeria from the colonial yoke, independently from the profile they had to use for the good cause, the photographer explained. The picture-exhibition “From Invisible to visible, Mujahida: combatant woman,” is being held at the Research Institute for Mediterranean and Middle-East Studies (IREMMO). This exhibition pays a tribute exclusively to women who are still alive, she said. There are also other archive pictures taken during the Liberation War which are exhibited alongside the unpublished ones, in addition to a description informing on the role of these women at that time.
