The Secretariat-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has participated in the 8th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)’s Committee on Women.
Equal Opportunities Director at the SCW’s Secretariat-General, Raniya Ahmed Al-Jaraf, represented the SCW at the ESCWA’s session.
She highlighted the National Model for the Integration of Women’s Needs in Development, being a unique experience in the Arab region that was prepared and implemented by Bahraini experts to achieve equal opportunities using specific indicators to measure the progress made in this regard.
The model, she said, aims to achieve balance between men and women, ensure that national development plans and strategies cope with the modern requirements, and are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, integrate women’s needs in public institutions and combat violence against women.
The session featured a number of work papers on the progress made in the field of women advancement in the Arab region, ESCWA’s activities, the Muscat Declaration on gender equality, the recommendations of the Committee on Women, and mainstreaming gender equality within public institutions
