Qatar Philharmonic will perform Tchaikovsky\'s Pathetique Symphony No.6 in B Minor, Op. 74 and Stravinsky\'s Petrushka on Saturday, at, 7:30 pm at Katara Opera House. Korean cellist and conductor Han-Na Chang will conduct the concert. The Pathetique Symphony is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky\'s final completed symphony, written between February and the end of August 1893. The composer led the first performance in Saint Petersburg on 16/28 October of that year, nine days before his death. The symphony contains four movements: Adagio - Allegro non troppo (B minor - D major - B minor - B major); Allegro con grazia (D major - B minor - D major); Allegro molto vivace (G major - E minor - G major) and final Adagio lamentoso - Andante (B minor - D major - B minor). Petrushka is a ballet with music by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, composed in 1910–11 and revised in 1947. It is a story of a Russian traditional puppet, Petrushka, who is made of straw and with a bag of sawdust as his body, but who comes to life and develops emotions. Petrushka is a work that fuses music, ballet, choreography and history in perfect balance. Chang began studying piano at age 3, and began her study in cello three years later at age 6. In 1994, at only 11 years old she competed in the Fifth Rostropovich International Cello Competition, winning first against many musicians some being even double her age. At this competition she was awarded with both the First Prize as well as the Contemporary Music Prize. (QNA)
