Born in 1980, Amr El-Kafrawy is one of the budding talents of his generation.
His solo exhibition, titled 'Like a mirage,' that will open on Sunday, 23 November, will include works that were inspired by old studio photos readapted and reused on a background of thin pieces of old faded paper in the wake of a contemporary exploration of the past.
According to the information provided by Mashrabia, the women in El-Kafrawy's artwork may seem retro divas and ladies, but they are common women as the artist relates to them and their landscape through ambiguity. Appearance and reality merge and blur, suspended between contemporary times and a vintage guise.
A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Helwan, where he studied painting, El-Kafrawy juggles between a variety of mediums: drawing, painting, illustration and graphic design. His artistic meanders were additionaly enriched by postgraduate studies at Warsaw University's (Poland) Design Department.
