Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh el Damati and US ambassador to Egypt Stephen Beecroft will inaugurate on Saturday a number of tourist sites and landmarks in the Old Cairo district of el Khalifa.
The ancient tourist sites will include the shrines of Shagar elDurr and Sayyeda Roukayya.
The inauguration comes after the completion of renovation work, which was conducted as part of an initiative launched by the Antiquities Ministry in June 2012 as a participatory project meant to engage residents in preserving the antiquities.
Some of the renovation work was co-funded by the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) and the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).
