The foundation stone of Algiers Opera house project will be laid on 1st November in Ouled Fayet (Algiers) as part of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Algeria Independence, announced Tuesday Minister of Culture Khalida Toumi. During the audience granted to a Chinese delegation, comprising representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Chinese company in charge of the project, and the representatives of the National Agency for Major Cultural Projects, Toumi underlined that the "major cultural and civilizational project, the fruit of a long-standing cooperation between Algeria and China, is due to be achieved within 24 months. The idea of building an Opera house in Algiers dates back to 2006 during the visit paid by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika to Chine. The Chinese government offered to carry out the 30-million-euro project.
