Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, TCA Abu Dhabi, has announced that the Black Box Cinema project by Emirati filmmaker, Nawaf Al Janahi, will return for the third consecutive year at the 26th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, ADIBF, running from 27th April – 3rd May at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ADNEC.
The cinema programme consists of Emirati and Arabic films along with a platform to discuss the local cinema movement and other professional aspects in the world of filmmaking.
In an attempt to bring books and the cinema closer, visitors have the chance of purchasing specialised books on cinema from participating publishing houses along with the opportunity to choose one of the films to watch.
The Black Box Cinema will feature 18 films from 10 Arab nations, including Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Kuwait.
The films to be screened are: ‘A Thousand Mercies and Lights', ‘Get Married’, ‘A Wish’, ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Made of Clay’, ‘Romeo Married Juliet’, ‘Bou Lawlad’, ‘Crossing Boarders’, ‘Hot, Dry Summers’, ‘Zakaria’, ‘Asalam Alaiki ya Mariam’, ‘Waves 98’, ‘Five’, ‘Eye and Mermaid’, ‘An Image’s Thoughts’, ‘Cholo’, ‘Water & Blood’ and ‘A Decision’.
The Black Box Cinema aims to drive the growth of Emirati cinema, considering films as an integral part of the UAE’s cultural scene. The project also aims to highlight Emirati cinema to the world.
The Black Box Cinema has attracted multiple visitors to the fair’s previous edition, especially school students.
ADIBF is the region’s fastest-growing book fair. The fair will celebrate Ibn Rushd, its Personality of the Year, by reading his work in an untraditional way, as well as Italy – the Guest Country of Honour – with a dedicated pavilion and a rich cultural and professional programme.
