Heavy rains caused flooding in South Philippines and resulted in the death of at least 14 people, and 10 others still missing. According to civil defence official Fidel Quintana of the southern city of Davao, in a press release, that the city was the most susceptible to losses caused by flooding of Matina river. She said up to 15,000 families had to be evacuated from their homes in the mostly poor community along the river as floodwaters totally submerged their homes. She said troops had been sent to the area to help in the rescue and relief efforts. Tropical Storm Maeri also caused flooding last week and forced the evacuation of some 90,000 people in the capital Manila and in nearby provinces.
