Kuwaiti divers lifted a large fishing net, weighing half a ton, entangled in rocks under the sea surface north of the Kuwaiti island Auhah.
Mahmoud Ashkanani of the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF) told KUNA on Sunday that the net had to be removed because it constituted a hurdle to boaters at the location.
He criticized some fishermen who dump their nets at locations including rocks and coral reefs, thus the nets get stuck causing disruption to the livelihood of marine creatures.
Auhah is a small Kuwaiti island located east of Failaka island. Its waters are favored by Kuwaiti fishermen.
