Kuwaiti divers have lifted abandoned fishing nets off the island of Garu and released trapped marine creatures.
The divers removed the nets west of the island's coral reefs, said Walid Al-Shatti, in charge of marine operations at the Kuwait Dive Team of The Environmental Voluntary Foundation.
These nets caused damage to the reefs, perish of various species of fish and other sea creatures at the spot, Al-Shatti told KUNA.
He reiterated that fisherman must abide by fishing regulations, abstain from approaching the coral reefs, obstructing sea navigation and divers' tasks. He also urged sea goers to report about location of entangled nets.
