The Japanese government has begun preparations to ratify the landmark Paris climate deal by the end of the year and may submit necessary documents to the Diet in its upcoming session in the fall, Kyodo quoted government sources as saying Tuesday.
The move comes as major greenhouse gas emitters such as the United States, China and India are showing eagerness to swiftly ratify the Paris Agreement, which will enter into force following ratification by at least 55 nations accounting for an estimated 55 percent of global emissions.
The Group of Seven members, which include Japan and the United States, also agreed during their leaders' meeting in Japan in May that they will strive for the deal's entry into force in 2016
